Helix piercing near lymph vessel

2021.10.18 14:56 choc-cherry Helix piercing near lymph vessel

Hey guys I’m looking for some advice. I have a helix piercing that is 5 years old that initially had some trouble healing, but is now completely dry and pain free except in some cases.
I’ve been noticing a pattern around when it swells up and becomes inflamed - every time my immune system is fighting off something, my piercing swells up and the skin around the piercing hole fills up with pus (graphic, sorry!)
It’s happened with both vaccine doses (got my second dose today and it’s swollen and inflamed again), it’s happened whenever I’ve had a cold too.
I’m thinking that I’ve been pierced near a lymph vessel in the ear.
Has anyone else experienced this?

2021.10.18 14:56 LFarky Psychedelics, trauma, God, etc.

Hey squad. Psychedelic guide here. I was recently on the Psychedelics Today podcast speaking with the excellent Kyle about a whole bunch of stuff that may interest this group. Here’s a link to the episode (also on all major platforms): https://psychedelicstoday.com/2021/10/15/ptsf81/.
We discussed:
- What trauma actually is, how it’s an inescapable fact of life, how it can be personal and collective, and how overcoming trauma mostly isn’t a rational process - we can’t think/talk our way out of it
- How ‘the body keeps the score, and the mind hides the score’ of trauma
- How conventional talk therapy can help us understand and process to a point, but unless we work somatically we will always be anchored to our unwanted symptoms
- How Somatic Experiencing and Internal Family Systems offer powerful and radically different approaches to conventional talk therapy
- How Internal Family systems is an ‘evidence based’ therapeutic model and in some ways modern-day shamanism
- How we are mammals and so we heal like mammals (shaking, tremoring, etc)
- The unique ‘7 Lens’ approach to my work that I developed
- How Covid is traumatising healthcare workers, and the need to ‘heal the healers’
- How the brain likely doesn’t produce consciousness, but mediates it, just as a TV doesn’t produce the actual TV show
- Leading consciousness researcher Bernardo Kastrup’s work on ‘idealism’, and how the ‘common ground’ of reality could be consciousness
- How consciousness, God, and the unified field theory all seem to point to the same thing
- The limitations of our current Newtonian-Cartesian scientific paradigm, and how the scientific method needs to be expanded
- How seeing our consciousness as both individual and shared - like a drop is both unique and part of the ocean - might be the next big paradigm shift in the West, similar in scope to the time we went from a geocentric world view of the solar system (thinking the solar system revolved about the earth) to the heliocentric one of Copernicus and Galileo (knowing the solar system revolves around the sun)
- And much more!

2021.10.18 14:56 ste-therese Custom kryo registrator failing when migrating from 3.0.1 to 3.1.2

Hi all,
As the title says I'm looking into migrating from spark 3.0.1 to 3.1.2, and I am losing hope right now. I am using Scala and registering kryo custom serializers using this method. This works great in 3.0.1 but if I run the same code after upgrading to spark 3.1.2, I get an exception the first time spark is used.

org.apache.spark.SparkException: Failed to register classes with Kryo Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: com.foo.bar.MyKryoRegistrator
I am certain the class path is correct. I've also read the migration guide from start to finish and haven't found anything relevant. Online I have been able to find this thread which looks very similar, but it's an issue that occurred in version 2.2, and is said to be fixed.
I would like to see if anyone here has had any issues of this kind? If so, did you manage to solve them?
Thanks a lot

2021.10.18 14:56 Katsunathescript Hi everyone does anyone have tips as to how to remove tear stains?

My cat has some stains below his eyes, not too much but I wanted to try and wipe it. He’s quite new to me . I was able to pick me ip but the second I brought the wiper near his face he scratched me while running off. Does anyone know if wiping it is necessary at all and if so how to do it safely. I’m not sure if my cat hates me now lol

2021.10.18 14:56 angrydeadlifts [Meet Report] Battle of the Belles 10/17

Yesterday was my first strongman competition.
TDLR: won my weight class, qualified for nationals, and had a great time.
Background
I've been lifting for about 10 years now. I've done 8 powerlifting competitions over the past 5 years, and at some point during the quarantine I thought, it would be fun to try strongman, so I found a gym nearby with implements and got to work. I meant to do my first show in April, but I threw out my back 3 weeks before, whoops!
Training
I've done Simple Jack'd for the past 20 weeks or so. I had a powerlifting meet in August, so I did squat/bench focus to start, then bench/deadlift, and then after the meet, switched to clean and press for my focus lift. I trained in a commercial gym during the week because it's closer to my house and has better hours and would visit the Strongman gym on the weekend. I would do log each time because I suck at it and would rotate between the other events, stones, yoke, wagon wheel deadlift, etc.
Competition
Like the title suggests, Battle of the Belles is an all women competition. The event was a fundraiser for the Bennett Cancer Center of Stamford in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I signed up for heavyweight novice, and there were six of us competing that day (I think 25 competitors in all).
The event was in Port Chester, which is about an hour and a half from my house. My family came with me for support, and my sister made sure I made to each event on time and had the right equipment.
They had a junior competition for girls, 12 and younger, called junior belles. They were adorable and would compete in between our events, giving us a much needed break. They did prowler push, keg carry, sandbags over bar, and tire flip.
The Events
I'm not sure how they decided the order, but I got to go last for each event, which was great. It might be because I signed up early.
First event for everyone was Log Press for reps, clean each one. Our log weighed 107lbs, and I tied for first with 8 reps. Log is my worst event, so I was pretty excited about 8. My gym PR was 5.
Next for us was Conan Wheel w/ 350lbs I never did this before, so I would practice with a yoke and carry it Zercher style. I kept my pick height high, since I didn't want to do a full squat to break the floor. Most of the others had a low pick height. I won this event w/ 240 ft (4 revolutions). I was wrecked afterwards and lied down on the ground. My butt hurt, my back hurt. It was hell.
Third was the Wagon Wheel Deadlift w/ 305lbs. I won this event with 17 reps. I got 18, but I got no-repped for one for skipping a command. I had like 10 seconds more to go, but since I won the event, I just stopped.
Fourth was Frame Carry (300lbs)/Keg medley (150lbs). You had to carry the frame 25ft, pick up the keg, take it 25 ft and back and then return the frame. So I can't read and I thought that it was a yoke/keg medley, so I trained with a yoke instead of a frame (not sure if the gym I train at even has a frame). As it turned out, the frame was easier to move than the yoke. I won this event by almost 2 seconds (25.84s)
Last was the Stones over Bar 160lbs. The competition was mine to lose at this point, but stones are the great equalizer for a reason. I hadn't really trained over a bar. I lifted the stone to a platform. The winner of this event got 8 reps. She killed it. I struggled with the first rep and the second, realized my elbow sleeves were getting in the way, so I tore them off and managed to get 7 reps to go somehow. Tied for second for the event and locked in the win.
The competitors were great. Everyone was really nice. One of the open competitors gave me some tips on the stones. Couldn't quite implement her advice that day, but I will definitely work on my technique moving forward. The woman who got second gave me a run for my money every event, which made the day a lot of fun. I'll definitely do it again next year, but the open next time. Nationals, I'm not sure about. It could happen.
The Videos
What's next?
Well, I've put on like 20lbs since last year, and some of it was muscle, but a good amount of it was not, so I'm leaning out for the rest of the year. Taking a break from the heavy weights and I'm going to try John Meadows' Warlock.

2021.10.18 14:56 Linus_Naumann Facebooks huge „Metaverse“ initiative and the speculative role of IOTA

The “Metaverse” is a term coined in 1992 by science-fiction author Neal Stephenson and describes the vision of a full connection between our physical world and virtual- and augmented reality. It is a fully interoperable plethora of places that are interconnected, inviting the users to seamlessly switch between platforms, games and places within a shared virtual world and with the ability to carry all kinds of assets from one place to another. Similar ideas were artistically depicted in movies like “Ready player one”.
Big news today: Facebook just announced to create an wooping 10.000 highly-qualified jobs in Europe in order to build this very Metaverse. However this Metaverse would however not be owned or controlled by just one company. It will be a permissionless super-platform in which all other platforms, companies, shops and individuals can settle in and create their own landscapes and niches.
Crypto is essential for the metaverse!
If you want to build a digital world, you need the ability to create and trade digital assets. This can be currencies (as most crypto-projects are today) but also NFTs and tokenization-technology. You need digital representation for everything that you want to trade digitally, which is, in Metaverse´s full vision, literally everything. These digital assets can furthermore not be controlled by just one or even a few big companies, since there would never be enough trust in the likes of Facebook, Tencent or Amazon, to represent privately owned digital goods, digital identities or even governmental assets.
The solution must be decentralized crypto.
However, not many crypto-projects out there actually have a vision big and complete enough in order to build the fundamental layer of something like a Metaverse.
A base-layer of the Metaverse must have:
- Digital tokenization of arbitrary assets (via “colored coins”, NFTs, etc).
- Scalable smart contracts. A whole economy of potentially millions of smart contracts must be run without clogging the network.
- Extremely reliable, extremely low fees (best is feeless).
- Digital identities
Why I think IOTA might be the key of the Metaverse
- IOTA develops 2nd layer smart contracts (fully ETH compatible), beta release on DevNet very soon. L2 smart contracts are basically individual blockchains that are anchored on IOTAs Tangle network and are fully interoperable to each other. This way a basically infinite amount of smart contracts can run in parallel (each with their own, paid committee) without clogging the main layer.
- IOTA allows for feeless tokenization of arbitrary assets. Individual IOTA tokens can be “colored” in order to represent whatever you want (including NFTs, stable-coins and any kind of tokenized assets).
- IOTAs base-layer is completely feeless. Every individual node helps with cooperative validation of the Tangle network and therefore does not have to pay any fees to miners or stakers.
- IOTA already released feeless digital identities framework with additional “verifiable credential” options (trusted parties can assign meaning to your DID. For example your University can prove that you own a master´s degree in informatics etc.)
Further speculation (please take this with a huge grain of salt, nothing official, pure speculation by me)
- IOTA Foundation founder Dominik Schiener and the head of financial relations Dan Simmerman recentely talked a lot about “Metaverse” on Twitter and Discrod and posted a primer-article about this topic.
Example from 17th of October:
Dominik Schiener:
“Recommended reading for everyone that wants to get into the Metaverse stuff: www.matthewball.vc/the-metaverse-primer
- Dan Simmerman, Dominik Schiener and head of partnerships Holger Köther hinted at a pending release described as being “better than Coinbase” on Discord and Twitter. If IOTA was chosen to be the base-layer of the Metaverse this would definitely count.
Twitter:
https://twitter.com/HolgerKoethestatus/1419206219286392838
SenfDa Tzu 25th July:
@ Dan Simmerman your legendary statement “better than coinbase” is a while pending in the room. Just curious… when - do you think - will be revealed what it is? Or has his event been cancelled? #IOTAstrong @ iota @ coinbase @ moon #soon #verysoon
Holger Köther 25th July:
The initiative is not canceled, and there is no NDA… as Dom wrote before, we’ll release more once we have the internal organization & external communication ready to be published.
- Facebook bases its gigantic 10.000 jobs project in Europe, IOTA foundations strongest territory (with multiple running EU and nation state partnerships. IOTA foundation is officially based in Berlin, Germany).
